Open to the public with events for the entire family
The event showcases Wolf Lake and surrounding natural areas as a resource for
recreation, education, and family fun, and helps foster bi-state cooperation.
It seeks to instill a stewardship ethic among participants. Events include
fishing clinic, kite fly, face painting, canoeing/ kayaking, birding, nature
walk, wind surfing instructions, bike tour of the Wolf Lake watershed as part of
the 10th Ward Green Summit, student presentations/demonstrations, picnic lunch,

Poster contest at 11th annual Wolf Lake Bi-State Wetlands, Wind & Water festival

Open to students and members of youth organizations of Wolf Lake area
Entrants to the poster contest will be asked to depict summer
activities/stewardship at Wolf Lake. Competition is open to students at Wolf
Lake area schools, scout groups and members of other youth organizations. Older
entrants will be asked to include the concept of stewardship that is required to
preserve and enhance the watershed. Entries will be judged in three to four age
categories by a panel of judges. The first place winner in each category will
receive $25. The second and third place winners will receive $15 and $10,
respectively. Winners also will receive free family memberships in AWLI for one
year. Winning entries, including honorable mentions, will be exhibited at the
AWLI’s information kiosk and at the Environmental Education Center. For further

Sculpture/3-D artwork competition at 6th annual Greening of the Arts Studio
Tour, Reception & Art Show at Environmental Education Center, 2405 Calumet
Avenue, Hammond
Open to middle school and high school students who must use recycled materials
in their art work.
Winner will receive $50 prize. The event also honors volunteers who donated
time to conduct AWLI’s festivals and fair, and those who financially supported
past events in 2010-2011. The event will feature music by guitarist Ken Czulno,
who performed at the 11th annual Wolf Lake Bi-State Wetlands, Wind and Water

Greening of the Arts Studio Tour, Reception & Show
The Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) will hold its 6th annual
Greening of the Arts Studio Tour, Reception & Show on three consecutive
weekends in July. The Greening of the Arts Studio Tour will be held from 9 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, starting at the Environmental Education Center,
2405 Calumet Avenue, Hammond. The wine and cheese reception will follow from 5
p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be live entertainment from 5:30-6 p.m. The Art
Show will be held July 23-24 at the Environmental Education Center in
conjunction with the Festival of the Lakes at Wolf Lake Park. There will be a
Greening of the Arts Exhibit at Pierogi Fest on July 29-31 at 119th Street,
Whiting.

Deadline for entering poster contest at the 8th annual Active Living Faire
Winners honored at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1 at Environmental Education
Center, 2405 Calumet Avenue, Hammond, IN. Guided nature walk will follow with
healthy lunch provided.
Open to students attending Wolf Lake area schools and youth organizations,
poster contest ask participants to depict how the Wolf Lake Watershed is in
keeping with the Daniel Burnham’s 1909 Plan. Monetary prizes will be awarded to
winners. Deadline for submitting entries is Friday, September 23. Winning
entries will be exhibited at AWLI’s Informational Kiosk at the Calumet
Environmental Center.

11th annual Bi-State Winter Wonderland at Wolf Lake festival

Open to the public with events for entire family
Families are invited to learn from a variety of exhibits and presentations and
participate in outdoor activities. Students will compete in the popular
Sellerski ice safety competition and a poster contest. Speakers will discuss the
Underground Railroad, Wolf Lake plants and wildlife, and the connection between
art and nature. Others will talk about ice boating with demonstration,
restoration of Wolf Lake, tree planting, and Wolf Lake amphibians and reptiles.
There will be educational displays and exhibits. Skating, pick-up hockey, and a

Winter Wonderland at Wolf Lake Poster Contest

Open to students at Wolf Lake area schools and members of youth organizations.
AWLI is sponsoring a poster contest that promotes healthy winter activities at
Wolf Lake. The contest is held in conjunction with AWLI’s 10th annual Winter
Wonderland at Wolf Lake on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Entries will be evaluated
in three to four categories by a panel of judges. The first place winner in each
category will receive $25. The second and third place winners will receive a $15
and $10, respectively. The awards will be presented during AWLI’s Winter
Wonderland at Wolf Lake festival at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, at the
Environmental Education Center, 2405 Calumet Avenue, Hammond. Winning entries,
including honorable mentions, will be exhibited at the Wolf Lake Park kiosk and
